H1N1
Action Steps for Parents to Protect Your Child and
Family from the Flu this School Year
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends 4 main ways you and your family may keep from getting sick with the flu at school and at home:
Practice good hand hygiene by washing your hands often with soap and water, especially after coughing or sneezing. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective. (Logos will have hand cleansing foam in each classroom, as well as lots of tissues!)
Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. If you don’t have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your elbow or shoulder; not into your hands.
Stay home if you or your child is sick for at least 24 hours after there is no longer a fever or signs of a fever (without the use of fever-reducing medicine). Keeping sick students at home means that they keep their viruses to themselves rather than sharing them with others.
Get your family vaccinated for seasonal flu and 2009 H1N1 flu when vaccines are available.
If flu conditions become very severe and many students or teachers are ill, we have other plans ready to implement, which would limit the spread of the disease, but still allow education to continue.

LOGOS SCHOOL UPDATE – 1
2009-2010
Elementary
Elementary Back to School Night: Please save Friday, September 4 from 7:00 to 8:30 PM on your calendar. Back to School Night is a time to meet your child’s teacher and find out more about the school and class.
Secondary
Field Day this Friday: This is our beginning of the year ice-breaker for the 7th – 12th graders. Students can meet at Robinson Lake Park at 9:00 AM or they can come to school at 8:30 AM and catch a ride on the bus. The bus will leave right at 8:30. There will be games and activities throughout the day. Lunch is provided. You do not need to be in dress code this day, but your attire should be conservative and modest. The park is 3 miles east of Moscow on Robinson Park Road.
Honors Designation: This year we will be offering students in a select number of our upper level classes the option of completing advanced studies in order to receive the designation of “Honors” on their transcript. See the attachment for details.
Secondary Back to School Night: This year we are trying something completely different for Secondary Back to School Night. On September 11 from 7:00-9:00 PM we will re-enact, in miniature, a secondary school day. This is an opportunity for parents to come and sit under the instruction of their child’s teachers as we move through all seven periods contained in a normal school day. Come and learn apologetics from Mr. Euhus, Classical Literature from Mrs. Marston and PE from Mrs. Spencer as we help provide a fuller picture of what your secondary student receives each day.

6th Grade Athletics
Dear Sixth Grade Parents,
I hope you are having a great summer. We are starting to plan for our next year of activities at Logos. The sixth graders are able to participate in girls’ volleyball, cross country, junior high basketball, and track. If your child will be participating in activities at Logos this next year, please print the insurance form, fill it out and bring it to registration in a few weeks. Waiver and Release of Liability form. Every secondary student (6 – 12 grade) participating in any of the above activities must have one of these on file with the activities director before the first day of practice. Only one form is required per family for all children in grades 6 – 12.
Volleyball: The junior high school team will start practice Tuesday, August 25th after school. They should have the “Waiver and Release of Liability” form and the participation fee of $40 turned in by then.
Cross Country: Cross Country (junior high and high school) also starts on August 14th at 7:30am (meet at the Moscow JH tennis courts). Junior high runners need only complete the waiver form and bring the $40 participation fee. Be sure to have your children bring everything with them to the first practice so that they will be able to practice with the team. Also, Coach Ryan would like Cross Country runners to begin working out on their own. The kids should be up to 3-4 miles (JH – 2-3 miles) 3 times a week and 6-7 miles (4-5 for JH) once a week by the time practice starts.
Enjoy the rest of the summer and we’ll see you soon. Go Knights!
