Knights’ Festival Update!

January 29, 2009 · Filed Under Secondary Current Events · Comment

Dear Parents,

Tomorrow (Friday) is Feast Day!  Dress is either semi-formal or lords & ladies.  There will be a parade of the lords and ladies to choose a best dressed of each in the upper and lower divisions just before we sit down to our meal.  Although we do not have enough food for parents, you are welcome to come and watch the entertainment which will take place throughout the feast.

Juniors – be here at 9:00 to help set up for the feast.

Ladies – bring baking entries to the gym between 8:30 and 9:00.

9th or 10th graders – be here in the gym by 10:00 to practice your songs.

Everyone else – If you come early and have nothing specific to do, there will be games in Room 2 with Mr. Sumpter or a movie (Kung Fu Panda) in the auditorium.  Be sure to be here for the start of the festivities which begin at 10:30.  Mr. Douglas Wilson will be speaking to us about the blessing of feasting and food.  At 11:20 the Parade of Lords and Ladies will take place and at 11:30, the feasting will begin.

Service Projects for Knights’ Festival 2009 General instructions to House Heads

Attached are the service projects we are doing this year for Knights’ Festival. Here is information that is common to all:

  • The ministries/companies/agencies involved have been contacted and they know we are coming.
  • They will have a representative on site to guide you and your house through the work to be done (except the clean-up of Ghormley Park).
  • Your job is to oversee the kids to be sure they are working hard and are representing the school well. You are also encouraged to join in the work as long as you can take time to oversee.
  • The students are to arrive at the service location at 8:30, or at school at 8:15 if they can’t drive and their parents can’t drop them off. These will be delivered to the location by bus. You can go by bus or your own car.
  • If there is anything to bring for your project (see: “Things to bring” under your section), please talk to kids in your house to see if they can supply them. If not, then talk to John.
  • When you are done with the project and are ready to leave, call John at 596-1599 and he’ll be around to pick up those who need a ride.

LOGOS SCHOOL UPDATE – Week 21

General

Re-registration Packets: Re-registration packets are due this Friday for the 09-10 academic year.

School Ball: The seniors will be sponsoring a school ball on Friday, January 30 from 7-10 PM in the gym (the Friday of Knights’ Festival).  $5 for students, $7 for adults, and $25 for families (Parents are encouraged and welcome to come.)  Semi-formal dress is required.

Home Basketball Game: This Thursday evening we will host the last JV and varsity home games of the season against Lakeside at 5:30 and 7:00.  Come on out and cheer for the Knights!

Uniform Mini Skirts: Just a friendly dress code reminder.  Girls’ skirts and jumpers must be knee-length or longer.  Some skirts that were knee-length at the beginning of the year may look more like a cheerleader’s uniform today.

Elementary

Spelling Bee: The 1st – 6th graders will be competing in an in-school spelling bee February 2.  The rules are included below.

Secondary

Knights’ Festival: As part of Knights’ Festival this year each house will be participating in a community service project.  The rationale for this element being included in Knights’ Fest is that we want to self-consciously see feasting and celebration as the result of sacrifice and service.  This year we will have the privilege of conducting service projects at Clark House, Sabbath House, Carenet of the Palouse, Good Sam, the City of Moscow, Bridge Bible Fellowship, the University of Idaho Dairy Parlor, and the NuArt Theater.

Each house will receive service project specifics this Wednesday afternoon.  Thursday morning students should show up to their service project location at 8:30 dressed in their Fight’n Knight t-shirt and jeans (a bus will be leaving from school at 8:15 for any students who can’t be dropped off at their project location).  Each house will have a supervising teacher working with them throughout the morning.  All projects should be complete between 11:00 and 11:30.  At that time students with their own transportation are welcome to head home or back to school for lunch (students without transportation will ride back to school on the bus).  If your child does not have a car, please talk to him or her about your family’s policy about riding with student drivers.  Logos does not generally recommend it, and there will be a bus available to get everyone there and back.

Knights’ Fest activities will resume after lunch at 12:35 in the gym.  See the Principal’s Page for more details.
