LOGOS SCHOOL UPDATE – 2010 – Summer #4
GENERAL
Dress Uniform: The first day of school will be a dress uniform day (see handbook for details). Students will not need to wear their dress uniforms on Friday of the first week. Uniform days will occur only once a week due to laundering considerations.
ELEMENTARY
Elementary PE: Our elementary PE program is staffed by volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering to help out by teaching a PE class, please contact me soon. Each PE class meets twice a week for 30 minutes. At this point, we are in need of volunteers for 5th and 6th grade.
New Elementary Family Orientation: For those parents who are new to the elementary or others who would like a refresher regarding “Life at Logos Elementary School”, you are cordially invited to our New Elementary Family Orientation. It will take place this Friday, August 20 at 3:00 PM in the auditorium.
Elementary Welcome Assembly: August 23 from 9:00-9:30 AM. Parents are welcome to attend.
SECONDARY
7th Grade Orientation: All 7th graders and their parents are welcome to attend 7th Grade Orientation this Friday, August 20 from 1:00 to 2:00 PM. This is a time to learn about life in junior high, receive textbooks, and get set for the new school year.
7th and 8th Grade PE: Be sure to bring your uniform and 2 pairs of shoes for PE each day (indoor and outdoor shoes).
Secondary Welcome Assembly: August 24 from 8:25-9:15 AM. Parents are welcome to attend.

Logos Science Teacher Conducts Summer Research
Wes Struble was selected to participate in the Teacher at Sea program this summer. Participants are assigned a cruise aboard one of NOAA’s 17 ships (or a chartered partner ship). NOAA conducts three main types of cruises. Fisheries research ships perform biological and physical science studies in support of fisheries research. Oceanographic and coastal research ships perform physical science studies in support of physical oceanography, atmospheric studies, and bathymetric mapping. Hydrographic survey ships scan the coastal sea floor with side-scan sonar and sophisticated bottom sounding systems to locate submerged obstructions and navigational hazards for the creation or update of the nation’s nautical charts. Elementary
6th Grade Play: This Friday the 6th graders will be performing their final classroom play. The assembly will take place in the gym and will open with a 2nd grade recitation at 8:35. All are welcome to attend!
Elementary Teacher Workday: Monday, May 24 is a teacher workday. There will be no school for the elementary students that day. The secondary students will begin their finals at this time.
Secondary
Secondary Awards Night: Secondary Awards Night will take place May 27th at 7:00. This is a time for secondary students and their families to come and participate as we acknowledge the good work that our students and staff have done.
Finals Schedule: The secondary finals schedule for the spring semester has been posted on the Principal’s Page. Finals begin Monday, May 24th. Text book check in will take place right before each final is administered.

Spring Concert
Just a reminder that the 2nd through 10th grade students will be singing tonight in the Spring Concert. Attire for performers is the dress uniform or nice church clothes.

Grandparents’ Day: We have a super day planned for grandparents, parents, family friends, and prospective families on May 7th. The morning will open with a light breakfast for grandparents in the auditorium, followed by class plays and presentations throughout the morning and early afternoon. The daily schedule is posted on the Principal’s Page. See the schedule below for evening events:
Elementary Open House 6:30-7:25 PM
Art Auction 6:30 – 7:25 PM
Spring Concert 7:30 – 8:30 PM
Spring Concert Notes: Secondary students should meet in the gym at 6:30 PM, elementary students at 7:00 PM. Students should wear their dress uniforms for the performance.
Secondary
Mock Trial: The Mock Trial A Team will be traveling to Philadelphia this week to represent Idaho in the national championships. Please pray for their safety and success.
Secondary Awards Night: Secondary Awards Night will take place May 27th at 7:00. This is a time for secondary students and their families to come and participate as we acknowledge the good work that our students and staff have done. 8th Grade Promotion will be a part of this evening, but it will not be highlighted by having the students sitting on the stage and receiving “diplomas”. The school dress uniform or church clothes are appropriate attire for this event.
